A Sundog or Somewhere Over the Rainbow?

It's a bit faint, but it's the first of the season and it's a sweet summer treat! What looks like a rainbow is actually a Sundog!

Rainbows remind me of pets who have passed away and you know how it is when you lose a dear sweet fur friend, it hurts for the longest time. I am really missing Tanna this summer, she died last November. I expect to see her basking in her favorite sunny spot where she would enjoy her daily doggie sauna (she was the original sundog, lol) or as she was in this photo laying under a shade tree while watching for a squirrel to chase. Her sunny spot is right next to the patio where I love to sit in my own favorite shady spot while reading or stitching away a gorgeous Minnesota summer day. You know, when I glance over to Tanna's spot I could swear that for a snip of a moment I see her napping there and I miss her.

Recently Tom and I watched the movie Marley and Me. I had already read the book and it was sad enough, but when we watched that movie we thought it was so stinking sad at the end ~ like losing Tanna all over again. Sigh. I had no idea the impact that movie would have...I dunno, I guess I wish I hadn't watched it. Sort of opened the wound again, ya know?

  2. Oh boy I do relate, what a kind face on your dear Tanna! We watched the movie too, it was maybe to soon for you, but Kim, its been 3 years since we laid our chocolate lab Kona to rest in our special pet place and it really hurt. Dogs are amazing animals. I think it also gives you the opportunity to settle her in your heart.

  3. Pets do have a way of getting into our hearts forever. I had heard how sad that movie was and did not want to see it myself.

  6. What a sweet face. I've lost a few dogs myself so I know how you are feeling.

I watched Marley and Me at the theatre. Afterwards, I went to the restroom to find it full of crying women consoleing each other. They were sharing stories about their lost pets. So sad.....

  10. I got thrown out of the car at a Drive-In movie watching the Ten Commandments ... chuckle! I can't watch sad movies ... loosing a pet is like loosing your own children, I have, the sadness in both cases is beyond belief the grief. TTFN ~Marydon

  13. Sorry to read your sad post. Pets are very special and I'm seriously considering getting one for the boys as I know how much I loved my cats when I was young (and I still miss all of them!)

  16. Love for our pets and theirs for our is so unconditional. It is better to have had and loved for all those years than not. Sorry it still hurts....but so many years of great joy too.

  17. Our Sprite (Maine Coon Cat) has been gone for over two years. At eighteen years of age she deserved to stop hurting so much but I still miss her and every once in a while I'm sure I see her in her favorite spot on our sofa. Love your blog.

  19. The house must be empty without her. I can imagine how it would be here if my fur friend would go.

  21. What a beautiful post, Kim! I can't watch that movie, because I couldn't bear the ending. When we put our 19-year old doxie down 2 years ago, I kept seeing him out of the corner of my eye in all the places where he used to hang out. It's so hard to say good-bye to our 4-legged friends, isn't it? They bring such joy while they're here, and we're very blessed to have known them for as long as we get to have them in our lives.

  22. There is no way I am watching that movie. I am still traumatized from Old Yeller. :)

  23. I know what you're saying about Marley and Me. My daughter and son-in-law just went through losing their beloved dog and then I watched that movie! Cried my eyes out!!! Animals bring such joy to our lives! Loosing them is so awful, but don't let that stop you from getting an animal, world! It's worth the love you'll receive, right?
