While it was Meryl Streep who was charming us as Julia in the movie, Julia Child's personality was shining through as we were charmed by her story. I like that Julie mirrors Julia's sticktuitiveness while striving to meet her goal of cooking her way through Julia's French Cooking recipes. Julie uses her talent as a wannabe writer to blog about the cooking, her job, marriage...life. While many a critic would say that Julie was trying to come off as another Julia Child, I thought it was obvious that she simply aspired to learn a few life lessons through Julia's work, that she admired Julia's assertive passion for life, love and cooking. Heck she even learned to cook some great food along the way. Of course movies almost never tell the entire story and sometimes even launch off in an entirely WRONG direction so I would say read Julie's book.

I want to see that movie but I've also requested the book from the library! :0)
ReplyDeleteAnd it is my understanding that Julia Child didn't even start cooking on the telly until 1963 when she was in her late 40s. It gives hope to all late bloomers doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteMy son told me he would go see this one with me....perhaps this weekend. :-)
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen this movie yet, but I am dying to! I plan on going with my daughter who got me blogging in the first place! We both love cooking, eating and great movies! Thanks for your insight!
ReplyDeleteI want to see this movie too. My husband doesn't at all so I will either go by myself or wait for the DVD. From the previews it looks like a great movie that I would totally like.
ReplyDeleteWent to the matinee today. The place was full. Everyone was over 40 and there were a suprising number of men. The movie was a delight and Streep was in fine form. I loved the movie but I've been a Julia fan since the late '60s when, as a new bride, I discovered her cooking show.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great movie, we will have to have a date night. With dinner definitely!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you had good time with friends.
Hugs, Carrie
I can't wait to see this!! I have been working my way through her blog and I want to read the book but it's killing me to wait!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds good. I'll have to check it out.
ReplyDeleteI had the pleasure of running into and chatting with the real JC at our local Farmer's Market shortly before her death. What a charming woman she was!
My momcat saw it too and also did a review. What a terrific, fun, uplifting movie!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog as I was looking at others and you know how sometimes you just start clicking on the 'favorite blogs' listed on the sidebar hoping you'll get lucky and find a treasure that you enjoy and want to visit again and again. Well, today was my lucky day!!! As I wandered through your past posts I knew I had FOUND another favorite. My one regret is that I hadn't found you sooner to add my support and prayers to those you so badly needed as you said goodbye to your dear friend. Please accept my most sincere condolences and know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers now. Thanks for the comments on the movie. I love Meryl Streep but I won't be going to any movies soon. I broke my anke and leg 12 days ago but didn't realize it was broken and walked on it for 7 days before it suddenly started screaming for me to visit the doctor. I truly thought it was just sprained badly. So, for the next 6 to 8 weeks I am grounded, literally. Soooo I'll probably have to see this movie AND the new Harry Potter after they come out on DVD. Ah Well, this too shall pass, and at least I can stop DVD's to go to the restroom. BUT...they can't stop me from quilting. It's a little tricky with one leg propped up on a chair but it's getting easier. There are just some things we can't do without.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had a good night out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your take on this and how FUNNY and FUN that y'all were hungry after. Sounds like fun to me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation, Kim. I love a good movie. Especially one based on a good book, when it lives up to the book.
